JUNE 25 – 27 MIDSUMMER FOOD AND WINES 2
The call of warm effervescent early summer days is the perfect frame to the season’s bounteous produce. The first delicate soft fruits, yellow trumpet zucchini flowers, flavour packed tomatoes, tender sweet peas and beans, are heaven-made combinations with seasonal Tuscan meat recipes.
Tuscans never drink wine without eating, and hardly ever eat without an accompanying wine. It’s as much a part of the pleasure of preparing a menu to share with family and friends as the food itself. With the weather calling for the first outdoor eating of the year, we’re thrilled to be able to offer a really special event in an exclusive location in the historic heart of Florence. Marco’s canoe champion past gives him the privilege of being able to host an event in the Members-Only, Florence Rowing Club, founded in 1886, the oldest in Europe. The Club is located in the ‘to-die-for’ position on the banks of the Arno River beneath Ponte Vecchio in the one-time 15th century stables of the Medici Family under their former offices – the now famous Uffizi Art Gallery. It is here, under the pergola, on the grass banks of the Rowing Club, that we have organized a sommelier led wine tasting of Italian wines, followed by lunch prepared by the Rowing Club’s chef.
Back home afterwards, we’ll put the finishing touches to a light supper to enjoy by candlelight in our garden.
